I have bought 2 new spring type air pistols to shoot online competitions with. An SMK xs3 in .22 calibre and a Gamo P900 in .177.
If you are interested there are reviews of both on YouTube. I must say that the SMK is best. It is accurate and feels good in the hand. The Gamo feels cheap and I can feel the body of the pistol move when cocking it.
That said I had a pleasant hour target shooting in my garage. I can see I’ll get many hours of enjoyment from these 2 pistols.
I thought I’d have a couple of extra goes at Haiku but make it personal. I have arthritis in my left hip which, daily, gives me pain. It is mostly just a dull ache but occasionally flares up to be more acute. Here we go…
Oo ow you basterd
Arthritis is playing up
Can I find relief?
And another one as I was getting into it (haiku that is).
Pain coming from hip Feels like it is in my thigh Now walking is hard
Muddy footpath.
I’m not sure why wordpress messes with the formatting. I’ve tried to sort it out but to no avail.
I was having a look at http://skepticskaddish.com and he mentioned haiku. I didn’t really know what that was. I mean, yes, I had heard of it but I wasn’t sure what qualities a haiku needed. So I looked it up on the internet and here is my attempt at haiku.
How to write Haiku Internet will tell you Did I get it right?
I have been a fan of Spike Milligan, poet, actor, writer, Goon, since I was around 8 years old. I had received his book “The Little Pot Boiler” as a gift and it was my first experience of true nonsense poetry written by a master of nonsense.
Spike Milligan
When I finally came across his poem “Abc” I was disappointed that he had skipped the letters M N O P Q R S and T. Although the poem is amusing it always rankled me. I have decided to add a verse to Spikes’ poem to include those letters. I appreciate this may be a bit rude, but I would hope that Spike would have liked it, god rest his soul.
Abc by Spike Milligan
‘Twas midnight in the schoolroom and every desk was shut, when suddenly from the alphabet was heard a loud “Tut-Tut.”
Said A to B “I don’t like C, his manners are a lack. For all I ever see of C is his semi-circular back!”
“I disagree” said D to B, “I’ve never found C so. From where I stand he seems to be an uncompleted O.”
C was vexed “I’m much perplexed you criticise my shape. I’m made like that to help spell Cat and Cow and Cool and Cape.”
“He’s right” said E; Said F, “Whoopee!”; Said G “‘Ip, ‘Ip, ‘Ooray!” “You’re dropping me,” roared H to G. “Don’t do it please I pray.”
“Out of my way,” LL said to K “I’ll make poor I look ILL.” To stop this stunt J stood in front and presto! ILL was JILL.
Said M to N “I need to P.” O said “Join the Q.” R shouted “Snake!” and T replied “It’s S you see, don’t get in a stew.”
“U know” said V, “that W is twice the age as me. For as a Roman V is five, I’m half as young as he.”
X and Y yawned sleepily, “Look at the time!” they said. “Let’s all go to beddy byes.” They did, then “Z-z-z.”
THE END
I hope you liked it and that it works. I had fun thinking about it.
I had plans for today. I was going to carry out some extensive tests with my new pistols. However it was not to be. My son’s Warhammer 40K game arrived and I promised to help him put it together and play a game.
It took us about 2.5 hours to assemble all of the Space Marines and Necrons that were in the box. We then played a couple of the scenarios in the book. My son has such an active imagination that he came up with a couple of house rules too. We played for about 2 hours before he’d had enough.
I’ve always enjoyed the Warhammer games and I enjoy reading the background material to the Warhammer universe. I’m not sure it has grabbed my son the same way it grabbed me but we’ll have to wait and see.
I did manage to get half an hour shooting in but it was cold in the garage so I was happy to cut it short.
A couple of new spring powered air pistols arrived today from those wonderful people at sportsguns.co.uk in Wales. I bought them because my original 17+ years old spring pistol has started making a destressing noise.
.22 SMK S3 and .177 Gamo P900.
I’ve had a little go with them and adjusted the sights a bit. Tomorrow I’ll spend a few hours with them to see what’s what. I’ve already noticed that the .22 has to be aimed lower, due to pellet trajectory, than the .177.
My wife thinks that 11 air pistols is enough but I point out that I’ve only bought 11 in 17 years, so it’s not that many. Tracey says that since 6 were bought in the last 11 months, I need to slow down! It all a matter of opinion.
My daughter asked if we could go for a drive around the neighborhood tonight. Other than a few trips to the shop I hadn’t driven any significant distance since about a year ago.
We drove for about an hour and a half, just around the local area. I had a burn up the ring road but otherwise we just pootled about.
The highlights of the drive were the 3 urban foxes we saw. They all looked healthy.
