Lighter nights.

Dead tree.

I saw this tree on my walk today. It appears to be dead but I expect it is teaming with insects, bugs and creepy-crawlies. Judging by the damage to the bark I think the birds have been enjoying the bounty.

Mud.

I’m tempted to buy some grass and flower seeds to spread on the verge of the footpath. It’s like a ploughed field!

We had a nice walk down through the beauty spot and saw some ducks on the pond. Nice sunny day and away from the traffic and fumes.

When the going gets going.

Some good news with regards to work. I’ve asked a few people about their experiences under Covid and it is mostly positive. It looks like the vast majority of people are being sensible.

I’m doing a deep clean at home and my daughter has accused me of malicious vacuuming at an ungodly hour. I pointed out it was half past nine in the morning and she should be up and about.

I was a bit worried that my Gamo P-800 was on it’s last legs as it has started to make a noise after firing. It is a sort of resonating noise for a good second or two. I asked for advice online and the opinion was a broken spring. Today I gave it a good spray with GF45 PTFE solution. That seems to of helped and there is no loss of power, so I am optimistic.

10 things to do before bedtime?

I’ve been looking at other blogs and Pinterest sites and the “10 things” post is annoyingly common. It would seem 11 is too many and 9 is not enough. I wonder what would happen if the author said “actually I only need 7 things to knock this out of the park” or even said “10? are you mad? I need at least 25!”

I joke of course. We all know life is a knobbly old mess mostly and if you could solve it with a checklist of 10 items we’d all be laughing and eating soup (or do you drink soup? Where’s my checklist?) These lists are just to get your mind focused and thinking. I’m currently trying to get a cleaning routine going as lockdown has made me lazy and these lists are simultaneously funny, stupid, insightful, confusing and though provoking.

I’m managing to get it together slightly but … I’m still slacking.

You must live like animals!

As part of my plan to combat my increasing withdrawal and depression I’m putting together a list of jobs to do around the house. I’m hoping that getting in to a routine and achieving something every day will help.

Having a look on Pinterest to get a little help with ideas was an eye opener! On one daily housekeeping list was “bathroom: pick up towels, put clothes in the hamper and put toothbrushes back in their holder.”

I would have words with my family if they couldn’t put their toothbrushes away properly, let alone leaving clothes and towels everywhere. I’m not a bloody servant!

Some people live like animals.

A problem with pellets.

Not all pellets are the same.

I was loading pellets into an Umarex .177 magazine when I noticed that some of them are filled with lead and some aren’t. These are all from the same tin. This means they are different weights and will have different flight characteristics.

Another tin of pellets has different sizes of head in the tin. Some of them are very difficult to fit in the barrel. I’ve not used these pellets before so I don’t know if this is common but I’m a bit disappointed. They are not a budget pellet and come from an international manufacturer of air gun equipment.

I’ll have to see how they perform in the rifles as they are a bit hit and miss (see what I did there?) in the pistols. I can always use these pellets for re-leading barrels after cleaning, so they won’t be wasted. If the worst comes to the worst I can give them to someone else to try once lockdown ends.

So tired …

Had a bad few nights. I’ve not been sleeping properly and I’m convinced I have sleep apnea. Not to mention that yesterday I went for a walk with my kids and whilst I was waiting for them to explore and rush about I got cold and my arthritis started to ache.

I fell asleep on the sofa today. I was supposed to go out with the kids again but was unable to summon the energy. I’ve not done any pistol shooting today either.

I hope tomorrow is a better day.
